Earth Day is a great opportunity to talk to your kids about protecting our planet—but why not do it every day? As discussed in a recent UN Assembly meeting, we only have 11 years to prevent irreversible damage from climate change.
So the time is urge and now!
For most people, children are the ones who remind me of how important it is to take care of the Earth. Just the other day one child said, "Mom, did you know the Earth is a living thing?"
And this is so real and they're so right!
Of course, the conversation didn't end there. They went on to ask parents who hurt the Earth and how can we hug it so it will smile again. When it thunders, they ask parents why the Earth is so angry. They intuitively know the planet is a living thing and they want to do something to make it better.
Taking care of the Earth is important to our well-being.
The Earth provides us with the ability to have balance every day of our lives—which is important in the balancing act that is being a working parent. The greens and browns in the Earth's surface are grounding colors. I would like to think of these two colors as creating an energy vibe of balance, peace, and calmness.
Children's story makes us realize that the Earth is our home and it’s time for us to appreciate love, and respect it. So why make one day Earth Day? Let’s teach our children to conserve energy, recycle, and keep our neighborhoods clean every day.
Below are just five of the countless reasons why we should take care of the Earth, on Earth Day and every day.
1. It’s the only home we have. We want our kids to have the same beautiful Earth we grew up with.
2. It grounds us. We all need a breath of fresh air every once in a while.
3. It provides us with food and water. Enough said.
4. It gives us a place to run and play. Where else would we toss a ball, push a swing, or splash in the pool?
5. It's a living entity. Let's take care of it like we take care of our kids. After all, it's the only planet we have.
